ACADEMIC & PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Dr Chris Garnett graduated from the University of Edinburgh with his medical degree (MBChB) and a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Sports Science Medicine with First Class Honours. He undertook his postgraduate medical training in London and gained his Membership of The Royal College of Physicians and a Postgraduate Diploma in Sport and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath. He then completed higher specialty training in Sport and Exercise Medicine in Yorkshire and worked at several prestigious centres including the English Institute of Sport, the National Centre for Sport and Exercise Medicine and the Princess Royal Spinal Injuries and Neurorehabilitation Centre. In 2018, Dr Garnett was awarded Fellowship of the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine and is recognised on the General Medical Council’s Specialist Register. He has also completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Musculoskeletal Ultrasound achieving a distinction and has further qualifications in personal training and nutrition.
Dr Garnett has a wealth of experience working as a specialist sports doctor in various elite sporting environments. He currently works for the FA with the England Men’s Development teams, British Triathlon and Huddersfield Town Football Club. He has previously held medical roles at Sheffield United Football Club, Yorkshire County Cricket Club, Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, Great Britain Boxing and The Huddersfield Giants. He has also worked at international sports events including the 2021 The Hundred Cricket Tournament, 2017 IAAF World Athletics Championships, 2016 European Aquatics Championships and the 2016 European Women’s Boxing Championships.
Dr Garnett is also passionate about medical education and has been a visiting lecturer and examiner at the University of Leeds and the University of Sheffield on both undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses including a Masters degree in Sport and Exercise Medicine.
